Copper Beech Farm in Greenwich, Conn., a 50-acre estate with 4,000 feet of ocean frontage, two offshore islands and a 15,000-square-foot mansion featuring 12 bedrooms, sold today for $120 million, making it the most expensive single-family U.S. home sale on record.
The sale hit record status despite a 37 percent price chop from the $190 million price tag it bore when it was first listed last May. The blog network Curbed ranked it the most expensive listing of 2013.
Other properties have sold for more money — like a working ranch in Montana for $132.5 million — but they had commercial aspects that made them not fall within the single-family home category, Curbed pointed out.
