Is 2010 the year of the app?
This year’s list of finalists for the 2010 Inman News Innovator Awards includes numerous mobile applications developed for smart phones.
The lightning pace of mobile app innovation and adoption has captured the attention of real estate consumers and professionals, who are accessing deep information about real estate in coffee shops, cars and everywhere in between.
The finalists are grouped into five categories: Brokerage or Franchise, New Technology, Web Service, Blog, Media Site, with an additional individual award for Innovator of the Year (finalists for this category are not announced).
Also, new this year, the awards will recognize a "People’s Choice" innovator, selected by a popular vote of Inman News readers from the list of finalists.

The winners of the 2010 Inman News Innovator Awards will be announced during the Real Estate Connect conference in San Francisco, which runs from July 13-15 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square hotel.
Since their inception in 1997, the annual awards have recognized companies including LendingTree, Coldwell Banker, Sawbuck Realty, Redfin, ActiveRain, vFlyer and Closing.com, and individuals including Frank LLosa of Frankly Realty and FranklyMLS.com, Bob Hale of the Houston Association of Realtors, and Mark Lesswing of the National Association of Realtors’ Center for Realtor Technology.

The selection process
Each year, Inman News announces the launch of the Inman News Innovator Awards process with a call for nominations several months prior to the Real Estate Connect conference.
Nominations are open to all and are submitted online. An Inman News review team considers the nominations and selects a list of finalists, and the finalists are drawn from the nominees and a list of other prospects suggested by the Inman News editorial team. The review team selects the winners from the list of finalists.
